Graduation: A Commentary

Dictionary.com says that "graduation" is "a conferral or receipt of an academic degree or diploma marking completion of studies."

It sure doesn't feel like those words feel. It's more like "Welp. You made it through years of skimming readings, late night papers, pointless lectures, and paying ludicrous prices for dense textbooks you don't use. You've learned some things, had some great discussions, met some amazing friends, and learned how to schmooze yourself through in the real world. You know a great deal more than when you started, but most of it is stuff that you can never learn in the classroom. You still don't know exactly who you are or where you're going, but! But!.... you do have a piece of expensive paper with fancy font and a couple signatures of people who don't know you and don't care to. Congratulations!"

So, grad school starts tomorrow ...

P.S. So much thanks to all those who have supported and loved me through 4 years of college. (Mom and Dad, you made it so easy for me... thank you!)
